Bursary: Kwara Students to Stage 6 Days Protest, demands release of N75M


The Kwara State Students under the aegis of National Association of Kwara Stare Students (NAKSS) has expressed their dismay over the refusal of the State government to pay the remaining parts of the students bursary.

NAKSS in a statement jointly signed by the Union Vice President Admin Comr. Abdullahi Ibrahim Paranti and Director General Comr. Elemosho Ridwan Damilare made available to this medium today said it will tomorrow (Wednesday) commence a six days peaceful protest.

According to the statement, out of the 100 million naira approved by the kwara state government, only 25 million has been approved.

The Student are however demanding for the release of the balance of 75 million serve the students welfare.

”We wish to remind you that you approved 100 million naira for the 2018 bursary award and you pronounced before all media houses that 50 million naira should be released and we went ahead to inform all our students but unfortunately only 25 million naira was released which is far not enough to pay about 1.6 million kwara state students.

”sequel to failure of series of peaceful dialogue, lackadaisical attitude and delay tactics of kwara state government towards the lights and yearnings of over 1.6 Million kwara students schooling home and in diaspora, we have hereby unanimously decided to bring to your notice our planned peaceful, diplomatic and democratic confrontation that will commence on the 6th February, 2019.

”…during the protest, pre-protest and post-protest we promise to be dogged in action and remain undistracted no matter any kind of intimidation that may be employed to distract or destabilise us…”
