The University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED) Ondo State, has obtained accreditation for its MBBS and BDS programmes.
The accreditation follows the verification exersice conducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria(MDCN), on October 12 , 2017, to ascertain the level of efficiency of facilities and human resources available for the training of Medical and Dental students.
In a letter dated October18, 2017, the Acting Registrar of the MDCN, Dr. T. A. B Sanusi said with the approval, the university can now conduct the first MBBS professional and BDS examinations that will allow the students’ progress to the next stage of their training.
Sanusi, who congratulated UNIMED for the achievement, sought early notice of the timetable for the examinations so that the council could send its observers.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Friday Okonofua, said the accreditation was a laudable milestone in the history of UNIMED, the first medical university in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.
He appreciated the Visitor to the University and Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN for his support to the university.
There was wide jubilation in the university as students and staff received the news of the accreditation which came barely two years after its establishment.
Workers praised the VC and described him as a visionary leader who used his experience to bring great developments to the institution.
